A two digit number is such that the sum of the digits is less than the value of the number by 36.when the digits are reversed, the value of the number increases by 18.find the original number *

Sharz i think there is an error in the second part of ur question. When the two digits are reversed the number DECREASES (not INCREASES ) by 18. The answer is 42 *sorry i said mistakened it for Quadratics but it is just Algebra * *

Assume the two digits are X and Y respectively. X is on the 'tens' column while Y is on the 'ones' column therefore XY can aswell be written as (10X +1Y or Y)..... When the two digits are added i.e X+Y the number decreases by 36. Hence X+Y=10X+Y-36... When they are reversed i.e 10Y+X (same as YX) the number reduces by 18..hence 10Y+X=10X+Y-18... Thus u have two equations i.e X+Y+36=10X+Y and 18=9Y-9X... Sort out the first equation and you find X to be 4. Replace X in the second equation and you find Y to be 2 hence XY=42...... Confirm from the question i.e 4+2=6 and 42-6=36..same as 42-24=18**finis** *
